Botanical Gardens & Wood carving Factory, Kandy : Sri Lanka : Episode 5

This is Day 3 of the Sri Lanka Trip. In the second half of the day, we continued our sight seeing, and we reached The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, Kandy. Which is one of the most famous botanical gardens in Sri Lanka and a major tourist attraction. The gardens are located about 5.5 kilometers west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, near the Mahaweli River. They were formally established in 1843, though their history dates back to 1371 when King Wickramabahu III kept a court at Peradeniya. During the British colonial period, the gardens were expanded and developed, with many plants being introduced from around the world. It covers a land of 147 acres and is a n important center for botanical research and plant conservation in Sri Lanka. They have over 4,000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants, and palm trees.
